Aireth Theme

"Moo..."

submission: Aireth Theme
date: November 15, 2007

The quality made me realize just how amazing FFVII's music really was. I tried to think of what it would be like in an older Final Fantasy, but before VII music was all the traditional heroic, adventurous RPG tunes, and VII's music wouldn't have fit anywhere. FFVII was sort of groundbreaking in the game music dept.

November 15, 2007

Author's Response:

Agreed...fully agreed actually. There were very very few games before this that could have come close to what FFVII did, and did well. But your review reminded me to the fact that I made a promise to myself sometime ago...I think it is time to fulfil that promise.

I'll get the bad out first. The first 25 seconds are kind of shoddy.

There. That's the bad.

Nuff said.

November 15, 2007

Author's Response:

Wow, lots of bad XD...but like I said...this is only about half done (if that if I do what I am thinking of doing :P).

Thanks for the review...and just wait till I get the final version out (btw, this is from a game called Shenmue...a very overlooked game...but a very good one at that.).

~Goodbye~

"Pretty nice job"

submission: ~Goodbye~

You might want to mention that this is a version of Faraway Promise from Xenogears in the Author comments (in case people want to hear what it's from).

I gave you a 7 cause it's still a nice remake (I certainly couldn't have done better), but it seems a little sloppy in some parts. I think the biggest problem is that it's just not really a song fit for a piano, or at least one so strong. Maybe make it a little softer.

November 15, 2007

Author's Response:

You are right...at least in a sense. This may sound wierd but let me lay out the story behind this song.

The day goes by normally enough and then I find out that my grandfather died. But life goes on as it will. Of course I am thinking about him too much and I find that I need something to take my mind off it at least a little. So what do I do? I turn towards music. I sat down at my computer I started to try to remix some pieces, that didn't work, so I decide that I would try, once again, to make my own. I get started...one of my friends logs onto their MSN (yes I have friends XD) messenger account and I decide to go "Oh hey, want to listen to something I have just started on?". I didn't even wait for a response, I just sorta sent it over right away. She listens and tells me that it sounds really good. Ok, but here is the odd twist, she also says that it sounds like 'Faraway Promise" from Xenogears (as you have said above). I simply say, "What is that?" (or something like that) and she sends it over.

Now it woudn't have been so bad if it had been a little like it, but the 20 seconds I had started sounded damn near exactly like it, which kinda annoyed me. But I was out of ideas at this point so I decided to integrate the 'Xenogears' song in with what I already had and this is what I came out with. Perhaps a little unbelievable, but let me just say that I felt it should go into classical because of what I did with it, and here is where it will stay^^.

Thank you for the review and for reminding me that the whole thing was not completely mine (seriously I had pretty much convinced myself that this was all mine =.=).

Now I felt like I had lied to all of you and for that I am sorry, forgive me and please keep enjoying what I do....perhaps one day, I will get better.

"Interesting genre"

submission: Kloptiza

I've never really heard anything like this before, it was really cool. Huge variety, I'd imagine it took quite a while to make. You must have a good deal of skill to use such a variety of instruments together well. I haven't seen any of you music for several months, I'll have to look into them now.

Daylight Savings Time

"A little too much variety"

date: November 5, 2007

The beginning was well done until the instrument from the right came in. You made that the focus, and anything focused should be in the middle. Also the bass was a little too high for the percussion.

The violins, piano, and the soft sound starting the song were all done very well. I think you just need practice pacing the song (not changing the instruments so often) and not changing the focus so dramatically (going from soft strings to the loud right strings).

November 5, 2007

Author's Response:

I really appreciate this review, though i don't agree entirely that I focused on the synth on the right (it was more of an interlude while the focus was on the tremolo strings)

I will agree that my pacing could have been better, I may re-submit this song after I spend some more time on it (This took me a half hour to make approximately).

TOGETHER (You Were There)

":D Goodness all around"

date: November 2, 2007

I can't believe the instruments in this. They're blending together amazingly.
Really really well done.

I haven't played ICO in about 2 years. I never got around to beating it. :(
Now I want to.

November 3, 2007

Author's Response:

Are you joking!? Go finish ICO man, it's one of the single most greatest games ever created (IMO, ofcourse!).

I'm glad you dig the song, but the song is not nearly as important as FINISHING ICO! Gogogo! =D

The Last Hero

"Sweetness all around!"

submission: The Last Hero
date: October 21, 2007

This is incredible work! The sound quality seems sub-par, but if the quality was higher, I think I would have rated it lower. The whole song's just fit for low-quality, like a SNES track.

There's a huge variety of instruments, and they go together extremely well. I'm personally terrible with all forms of percussion, but I'm blown away by yours.

This is the first song I've heard from you, but I'm about to go searching through your list. I'll be downloading this one too!

Startup Remix

"Kind of annoying"

submission: Startup Remix
date: September 25, 2007

It was really well done for what you used, but I think different sounds should have been used. I've never been fond of the main sound you used, and it got annoying pretty quick. Without it, I would have enjoyed it much more.

Still good though! ;)

Author's Response:

Well Cory, this was the first piece of music I've ever made, and submitted to NG. If you were stuck with making music with sound recorder, I'm sure you'd understand what I had to go through =^_^= Umm, this was supposed to be music based on the sounds of the startup and shutdown sounds, so I needed those, or it wouldn't really qualify as a Startup Remix. Umm, once again, I was stuck with sound recorder, so I didn't have much choice, and if I had given the computer sounds up, I would've lost my strings as well. My main goal was to simply put a nice beat to what I had done with it in sound recorder...and I've accomplished that. My ooooooonly question is why someone who did something similar as far as putting a beat with computer sounds get way more attention than I have? Not to sound jealous or anything, but he was 1st as far as best tracks ever...makes me sad...but it's ok, as long as people don't hate my music. Sorry for the long responses, and umm, thanks again for the review CoryLehan =^_^=

L&M Logo Theme

"Stunning"

submission: L&M Logo Theme
date: September 25, 2007

In such a small time it just keeps building and building until it explodes, and sounds perfect for a logo.

If I ever need a Logo theme, I'm going to you! :)

Also, have you thought of making a career out of this? I'm curious because I think that if you tried it you could easily get away with it. If I ever think of making a commercial game, I'm keeping your number handy! :D

September 27, 2007

Author's Response:

Sweet, another review from Cory! If you ever need a logo theme, I'm always here =^_^= I've thought about majoring in music in college. I'm still sticking with computer science though 'cause I'm afraid I might run out of ideas for music. Umm, but yeah, I'm here, and thanks again for the review! =^_^=
